MoCCA 2008- part 2

Here's some more photos from the MoCCA festival- the first 4 are from Chip Kidd's new book on the influence of Bat-Man in Japan in the 60's. The Japanese artists came up with their own stories and art-work and created an interesting amalgam of cultures. Nothing has been written about this work until now.
The last photo is of Steve Ellis who drew "High Moon"- check him out online as well.

It's not just you; Chip Kidd commented on that as well- it's actually the cover for his book.

Isn't all of Batman, foreign and US, chock full of homo eroticism? It's part and parcel of the character, I think.

Thanks for these shots - I'd read an interview with Chipp Kidd and the lawyer/collector he wrote it with and they had some images from the book, but they were just that cover shot and some other painted style images - none of the actual panel art that you show here...looks great! Definitely looking forward to picking this book up when it comes out.

Of course. That's how Robert Smigel came up with "The Ambiguously Gay Duo".

Yeah, those other shots of the actual comic were pretty interesting- I like the use of limited color and design of the page. Chip Kidd read from a couple of them...
