Lady J at Go Figure

This is the 3rd time Lady J has been to Go Figure, and she didn't disappoint. She had some great shoes and a feather fan as props, and she couldn't help moving her hips a bit to the "Son Cubano" music. These are all colored pencil, starting with a 2 minute, 5 min., 20 and 2 tens at the end. One of these is a "blind contour" drawing- it's pretty obvious which one...

Can I get a 'Hottt Dayumnnnn'! ??

These are real nice, Dan...almost an R. Crumb feel in that back view.

I'm gonna go with the first one as the blind contour drawing...am I right?

Thanks. I think R. Crumb would like Lady J...

No, you're wrong- that one is a quick , 2-min. sketch- you can tell from the movement of the line. Also, with the blind contour, I tend to "peek" every now and then, and then go back into the shading while looking directly. Try again.

i concur with justin. definitely an r.crumb feel in that 3rd one, which happens to be my favorite.ya gotta love a thick chick in platforms!

and in case you're wondering who the hell i am,i think we used to work together at khq and possibly haddad.just thought i'd drop a line as i visit often but seldom comment.

Hey Jason, thanks for the comment. I wish I could say I remember you from Haddad, but I blocked out my short 1 month stint in that hell hole. That was definitely the worst job I've ever had in the fashion industry. I don't remember anybody's name from that company- except for that asshole, Larry- the big boss gay guy who was married and had a kid on the way...

Anyway, I looked at your blog- some good stuff! Thanks for putting me in your links, I'll do the same.

Yeah, that's my Stones painting at "Rumours"- and the other ones as well.

Didn't know you had paintings in another bar..you're gettin' around!

Umm..ok, the blind contour drawing....#2 ???

Wow- I guess it's not obvious- to Justin at least. Wrong again. You have to look at the continuity of line- the blind contours have a different look- and keep in mind that it's not 100% blind...
All those figure drawings I displayed at Verlaine, the Juice Bar, etc. were all the same style- the blind contour style. That was because I liked the way the overall drawing worked. It has a certain logic and truth that comes from more "looking" than usual. I'm not even aware of it until I look at the page.
One more try...

Oh yeah, I've mentioned "Rumours" many times before, even in this blog in earlier posts, but I understand if you don't remember- no big deal.
It's at the corner of 55th and 8th Ave. and I have a painting of the Rolling Stones, U2, Bob Marley, and The Rat Pack. Check it out if you're in the area. The next one will be of Lawrence Fishburne, since he frequents that joint.

It's good to have a variety in the models. They were both really good to draw...

I'll say #4, but I suppose I'm wrong again. To be honest, I don't see that much variation from one to the other, in the sense that I could tell which was the blind contour. They all seem to have a pretty good overall structure, proportions, etc...#2, the lesser of the lot, hence one of my choices...I know if I did 5 drawings of a model, you'd very easily be able to tell which was the blind contour drawing, I can assure you.

Also, my mind is too filled with all kinds of useless information, so sometimes I forget places and even faces and names...

I guess Lady J inspires! These are beautiful, I'm so disappointed I couldn't make it.

Finally, you got it, Justin! And a clever comment to boot. Well done.

Thanks, Fred- sorry you couldn't make it, too. You missed Lady J in rare form...

Btw, Justin, try not to insult the models... (ie: alien looking...)

Dan, you are so crazy good! I love the color board ones. One day when I have lots of money, I'll commission you to do one of my husband!!

Thanks, Naomi! Let me know when you're rolling in the Benjamins, and I'll be there- ready to draw.
